ABOUT STAINABLE PRIMER™

Stainable Primer™ is a revolutionary new product which makes virtually any surface stainable without having to strip off the old finish.  Developed in 2008 by a hobby-chemist whose wife wanted to replace her white kitchen cabinets with stained ones. After seeing the large costs associated with replacing or refacing the cabinets, his idea was to create an economical wood based product that could easily be applied to a surface and be stained.  After years of research and development, Stainable Primer™ was born and the chemist’s family had a beautiful new kitchen.

Stainable Primer™ is based, biodegradable, and has virutally no VOC, meaning no offensive smell and less damage to our environment. Because it is a water-based producStainable Primer™ can be applied using an inexpensive paint brush or HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) sprayer by either inexperienced homeowners or by professional painters.

Stainable Primer™ allows you to skip the time consuming step of stripping the old finish.   Unlike many other products, the adhesion and absorption properties are excellent.  This means that once the project is complete, your new finish will be scratch and chip resistant.   This is a result of the absorption properties of Stainable Primer™ which allows your stain to absorb like it would on a standard wood product.  After applying Stainable Primer™, you can use any manufacturer’s stain or paint to create the look and finish you want.

IDEAS FOR WHERE TO USE STAINABLE PRIMER™:

  1. Transform MDF, painted wood or particle board cabinets into stunning stained cabinets

  2. Give plastic or metal furniture the appearance of lovely wood furniture

  3. Create attractive stained trim using inexpensive wood, PVC or MDF molding

  5. Change a staircase from carpet to stained wood finish without replacing the underlying inexpensive wood

There are no other products available today that allows you to apply stain to virtually any surface. The potential uses are limited only by your imagination!

STEPS FOR USING STAINABLE PRIMER™:

  2. Fill any holes or deep scratches with a filler product that does not contain silicone.

  3. Apply Stainable Primer™ with a brush, rag or sprayer

STAINABLE PRIMER FAQ

Q: On what surfaces can Stainable Primer™ be applied?

A: Stainable Primer™ can be applied to anything from furniture to steel doors, laminates, masonry, PVC, MDF, glass and more. All of these and more can be turned into beautiful stained products. Stainable Primer ™ will not adhere to Silicone or other petroleum based products.

Q: Do I need special tools to apply Stainable Primer™?

A: No, Stainable Primer™ can be applied with a standard paintbrush or paint sprayer at 4-6 mils thick.

Q: How is a wood grain achieved?

A: Wood grain will vary with choice of brush and technique. As you apply the product with a brush, the brush strokes create a surface that will appear as wood grain when the stain is applied. If you use a sprayer, you will not achieve the wood grain, because there are no brush strokes, however you will still have a beautiful solid wood appearance.

Q: How do I prepare my surface for Stainable Primer™?

A: Preparation is important with this product just as with any other paint or stain. Remove any loose paint, dirt, grease, or other undesirable content for best results. Patch any unwanted holes or grooves in your project with putty or non- shrinkable painters caulk. This product will not adhere to silicone caulk.

Q: Can I use Stainable Primer™ for outdoor projects?

A: Yes, it can be used for both exterior and interior applications. However, like all wood, it must be protected in exterior applications with exterior grade polyurethane. The main ingredient in this product is real wood particles, so it will react as wood.

Q: How long until the primer is completely cured?

A: Stainable Primer™ cures completely in 5-7 days, however, stain or paint can be applied after 1 hour of dry time. Be gentle with your surface for at least 1 week and you will have a durable surface that will last for many years without chipping, cracking, or peeling!

Q: What are the thickness measurements?

A: 6 Mils Wet, 3 Mils Dry

Q: What is the recommended dry time before stacking per typical substrates? (mdf, wood, pvc, etc.)

A: Recommended dry time is four hours.

Q: What is the freezing point of this product?

A: The freezing point of the product is 32 Degrees

Q: After this has been applied to a substrate, what temperature range can it sustain before deteriorating?

A: The temperature can sustain up to 250 Degrees, Freezing is not an issue that affects the product.

Saved me a ton of money!

I got a quote from Lowe's a while back for new kitchen cabinets ($6,000) that just didn't fit into my budget. So I did some research, found this stainable primer, and now have what looks to be a brand new kitchen, for less than $250 in supplies. This stuff is awesome!

    only one primer

There is nothing like this to make any hard surface same as wood and possible to stain. I tried to find similar one but I found there was none. This is only product.
