Theoretical Coverage: A 32 oz. jar is added to 3 gal of mixed epoxy, which covers 100 – 160 sq.ft., depending on thickness applied. Metallic epoxy applied thinner, will have less depth and may have more defects.

Surface Preparation: Metallic Additive is applied in an epoxy resin system that is at least 30 mils thick over a colored primer, typically black, gray, or white for lighter colors.

Concrete and coated concrete surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dirt, dust, grease, oil, silicones and other contaminants that may negatively affect adhesion.

Moisture Vapor Barrier: A suitable moisture barrier must be in place for concrete slabs on-grade. If a moisture barrier is not in place, seasonal variations in ground moisture can cause excessive moisture vapor transmission (MVT) regardless of results measured prior to coating application. MVT rate must not exceed three pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours, as directed by ASTM F1869. The relative humidity (RH) of the slab must not exceed 75%, as directed by ASTM F2170. If there is a moisture situation in excess of the above rate, the use of Simiron MVB Moisture Vapor Barrier Primer may be required. Consult a Simiron Representative for details and application procedures.

New/Bare Concrete: Diamond grind or shotblast to a CSP-3 or greater surface profile. Refer to SSPC-SP13/ NACE 6 or ICRI TechnicalGuideline No. 310.2. New concrete must be cured a minimum of 28 days and should meet moisture vapor transmission (MVT) and relative humidity (RH) thresholds as described above.

Previously Coated Concrete: Clean surface to prevent any contaminants from being spread/redistributed to a greater area being prepared. Thoroughly grind the surface with 30 grit metal diamonds to completely remove any grout or topcoats that are not epoxy based and provide proper surface profile required for adhesion of the system.

Mixing: A 32 oz. jar is added to three gallons of mixed epoxy. To the mixed epoxy, add the Metallic Additive powder slowly while mixing with low-speed drill and jiffy mixing blade. Mix for an additional three minutes or until all metallic is dispersed.

• Do not mix more than three gallons at time. Do not mix more than can be applied and worked in 20 minutes.
• Do not use in fast curing epoxies or epoxy siloxanes.

Application Procedure: 

1. Immediately after the material has been mixed, pour it all onto the floor in a ribbon.
2. Apply at a spread rate of 33-54 square feet per gallon to yield 30 – 48 mils wet film thickness using a notched squeegee.
3. Push the squeegee in the same direction as the ribbon with a slight angle to plow extra material to the side.
4. Parallel to the first pass, overlap and continue to move material down the floor.
5. Back-roll across the squeegee passes with a non-shedding 3/8” nap roller.
6. After evening out the epoxy with a back-roll, go back over the floor with a roller using circular, swirling patterns to create a unique three-dimensional appearance.
7. Use joints as natural breaks to divide sections of the floor.

Apply the material in a uniform thickness to yield consistent, metallic effects. The effect you create will change as the Metallic Additive flows and settles while the epoxy cures.
