Benjamin Moore HP1750 Waterborne Bonding Primer is a professional-grade, single-component bonding primer engineered for outstanding adhesion to difficult ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces. Formerly sold as Corotech V175, this translucent green primer combines the application advantages of a water-based coating with the adhesion and corrosion protection expected from a high-performance industrial primer.
HP1750 is an excellent choice for aluminum, galvanized metal, steel, stainless steel, copper, and other hard-to-coat surfaces. It can be finished with high-performance epoxies and urethanes or with more maintenance-friendly acrylic, direct-to-metal, and alkyd enamel coatings.
A Water-Based Alternative to Traditional Etching Primers
Traditional metal etching primers are commonly solvent-based, two-component products that achieve adhesion by chemically etching the metal surface. Although effective, these systems require mixing and often involve stronger odors, solvents, more difficult cleanup, and limited working times.
HP1750 was developed as a convenient, single-component alternative for many applications traditionally requiring an etching or wash primer. It requires no catalyst or induction period and provides excellent adhesion without the complexity of a two-component system.

Proper cleaning and surface preparation remain critical, particularly on stainless steel, copper, new galvanized metal, and other smooth or contaminated surfaces. A test application is recommended before beginning large or critical projects.

Broad Topcoat Compatibility

Translucent Green Appearance
HP1750 has a translucent green color and is not intended to provide a fully opaque or hiding film. Its purpose is to create a thin, tightly bonded foundation between the metal substrate and the finish coating all while offering excellent corrosion protection.
The translucent appearance is normal and should not be mistaken for inadequate coverage. Apply the product at the recommended spread rate and film thickness rather than attempting to achieve complete visual hiding.

SURFACE PREPARATION: All grease, oil, dirt, mildew, or any other surface contaminants must be removed using HP6000 Oil & Grease Emulsifier or SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning.
- Ferrous Metal: All loose rust and mill scale should be removed prior to applying this product. A minimum of SSPC-SP6 Commercial Blast or abrasive blasting is recommended for severe environmental exposures. Small areas may be cleaned in accordance with SSPC-SP2 Hand Tool Cleaning or SSPC-SP3 Power Tool Cleaning or SSPC-SP13 Power Tool Cleaning to bare metal. Tightly adhering rust may be coated over provided the surface is intended for use in mild atmospheric exposures.
- Non-Ferrous Metal (Galvanized, Aluminum, etc.): Remove surface contaminants using HP6000 Oil & Grease Emulsifier or SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning.
- Previously Painted Surfaces: Clean using HP6000 Oil & Grease Emulsifier or solvent washed as outlined above. Dull glossy surfaces by sanding. Remove all loose, flaking or peeling paint prior to application.
APPLICATION: Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. Thinning is not required although a small amount of water (up to 8 fl. oz. per gallon) may be added for preferred application properties. For best results, use a premium nylon/polyester brush, roller, or a similar product. This product can also be sprayed.

- Air Spray (Pressure Pot): 704 or 765 air cap and Fluid Tip E
- NOTE: Do not apply if material, substrate or ambient temperature is below 50 °F (10 °C) or above 90 °F (32 °C). Relative humidity should be below 85%. Do not apply if within 5 degrees of dew point or if rain is expected within 12 hours of application.
LIMITATIONS:
- Not recommended for floor applications
- Not recommended for immersion service
- Do not apply if material, substrate or ambient temperature is below 50 °F (10 °C) and with humidity levels less than 85%.
