Benjamin Moore HP1320 Universal Metal Primer is a high-performance, one-component, quick-drying, rust-inhibitive primer formulated specifically for ferrous metal substrates such as steel and iron. Engineered for commercial, industrial, and facility maintenance applications, HP1320 provides excellent corrosion protection while creating a durable foundation for a wide variety of intermediate and finish coats.
Its phenolic alkyd formulation offers fast dry and recoat times, making it an excellent choice for production environments where minimizing downtime is critical. HP1320 may also be used as a tie coat over many existing coatings before applying high-performance finish systems.
Available in White, Red, and Gray, HP1320 delivers dependable corrosion protection for properly prepared steel surfaces in mild to moderately corrosive environments.

Surface Preparation: All grease, oil, dirt, mildew, or any other surface contaminants must be removed using HP6000 Oil & Grease Emulsifier or SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning.
- Ferrous Metal: All loose rust and mill scale should be removed prior to applying this product. A minimum of SSPC-SP6 Commercial Blast or abrasive blasting isrecommended for severe environmental exposures. Small areas may be cleaned in accordance with SSPC-SP2 Hand Tool Cleaning or SSPC-SP3 Power Tool Cleaning or SSPCSP13 Power Tool Cleaning to bare metal. Tightly adhering rust may be coated over provided the surface.

Previously Painted Surfaces: Clean using HP6000 Oil & Grease Emulsifier or solvent washed as outlined above. Dull glossy surfaces by sanding. Remove all loose, flaking or peeling paint prior to application.
